Aussie Sapphire – Australia’s favourite Gem and Lapidary Shop
|
We first meet Andrew and Leah the operators of Aussie Sapphires back in 2006 during a recognisance trip to Emmaville in New South Wales Australia.
We were looking at several mines for material content for our documentary series. One of our |

most important aims at Gemseek is to promote responsible environmental protection and ethical mining, and we were extremely impressed at how this property is managed. |
These third generation farmers and now eco friendly Australian sapphire miners are an amazing family from the youngest to the eldest this family run enterprise headed by Andrew and Leah Lane with the help of their two sons Patrick and Angus and their respective supportive parents. They have been mining sapphires at their property on Reddestone Creek in New South Wales Australia for over 25 years and now supply customers all over the world.

Aussie Sapphire operates its mine under strict environmental protection standards and with regard to the health and safety of all staff. Unfortunately, gem stones from many other countries are not produced under similar circumstances. At Aussie Sapphire, they provide sapphires of world-class |

quality with the assurance that you are buying a product that has been mined in a responsible manner Their "mine to design" philosophy means you can wear any of their jewellery pieces with pride, this is what makes them different and you can be assured you are getting value for money? |
We discovered the ancient art of divining being used to source the sapphires in the ground a process which has proven itself over the years to be not only cost efficient but very environmentally friendly reducing the need to test drill.
|
We were suitably impressed and surprised by the reasonable price and quality of both rough and cut sapphire product plus all the lapidary supplies you could want this truly could be Australia’s favourite gem and lapidary shop and decided that we should share this remarkable Australian story. |

On the day of filming the crew arrived very excited to commence this stage of the ten day shoot towards episode one of our documentary series.

Andrew patiently “take by take” took us “step by step” through the mining process. A learning adventure for all and at the end of the day and a truck load of dirt we had 1/3 cup of Sapphires fit for a Kings crown. |
|
And as you look out over their property it’s hard to distinguish the mined land from the virgin ground and even mines of days gone past vanish into the beauty of this region. |
